iPhone 5. $800?

With the iPhone 5 approaching the market at any moment, there has been a lot of rumors about the 5th generation phone. One in particular that has set the social media world on fire. The hashtag #800DollarsForAnIphone has been a worldwide trending topic for the last couple of hours.

Would you buy the iPhone 5 if it was $800? I asked myself that today and I want to say “no”, but I know when that phone drops I would spend that much money on it. I spent $600 on the original iPhone without even looking back.

But before we get to far, its just a rumor. Right? The rumors came from online gaming site GameNGuide.

Here is a list of rumors for the iPhone 5. I hope they all come true, but I am sure they will not.

We all have heard about the smaller dock for the iPhone. I am not sure if this is true or not. I actually have mixed feelings about this. I do like the smaller dock because, from what I have seen, I would be able to use my Macbook Pro cord to power my iPhone. However, I have bought so many products of the original dock connectors that it would be a waste to get rid of them. I do understand however that if Apple wants the iPhone to get smaller and thinner than they had to make the dock smaller.

I have been hearing rumors that there is going to be a bigger screen. However I believe that Apple will stick with the 4 inch screen. Also today Sharp has been shipping over screen pieces to Apple. Which means fewer LEDs, and that will take up less space and use less power.

iOS 6:

One thing that is not a rumor is that we know that the new iPhone will have iOS 6. We have learned a lot about the new operating system since it was announced at the WWDC in June. iOS 6 will feature Apple’s own mapping system among other new features.

If rumors are true, then we will be seeing an iPad Mini come to the market this fall as well. I am all for a 7 inch iPad. I am not sure if the iPad will have all the same iOS 6 features as the iPhone 5. Let’s hope it will.

It would be very unlikely that the new iPhone 5 does not have 4G LTE. The iPhone 5 needs to have this in order to compete with Android phones and Window phones. With the new screen that the iPhone 5 is rumored to have, this will help prolong the life of the battery. Something that we all are hoping for.

Release Date:

As of today, the rumor is that the iPhone 5 will be launched some time in the fall of 2012. The rumor is this is the same time that the iPad Mini will be announced. I have heard reports of September 12th. The sooner the better for me.

Technically, the iPhone 4S would have been called the “iPhone 5”, because it is the 5th iPhone, since its conception in 2007. So will the name be iPhone 5? More than likely. However, this is their 6th iPhone, so maybe it will be called the iPhone 6. Or like they skipped the numerical numbers for the iPad this passed year. Instead of it being the iPad 3, it was simply called “the iPad”. Maybe your next iPhone will be called “iPhone”. Who knows. Only Apple.
