DoubleTwist — the company behind the AirSync tool which allows users to wireless sync their iTunes data — has released a new Mac app, letting users rip songs directly from iTunes Radio.
Called AirPlay Recorder, the app basically tricks iTunes into thinking that it’s an AirPlay device, so that it will stream music. It then records that audio for later offline playback.
AirPlay Recorder was released for Android back in January, but this marks its iOS debut.
Of course, the multi-million dollar question relates to how legal this technology might be?
While recording songs you don’t own sounds highly illicit, doubleTwist co-founder and president Monique Farantzos claims this is just another iteration of recording, which has been around for years without problem.
In other words, let’s wait and see Apple’s reaction.
For those who do want to download AirPlay Recorder, it’s available on doubleTwist’s website. Free users can record only 10 second samples of songs, but a full version is able to be unlocked for $9.99.
